Odessa, TX - Neighbors say these dogs are so out-of-control they won't let their kids walk to the bus stop.
Getting their mail, playing outside, going for a walk, these are a few of the many things residents in a west Odessa neighborhood say they can no longer do.
Several neighbors CBS 7 spoke to say they are hostages in their own backyards because dog owners won't keep several of their animals within their property.
Chris Smith says the violent dogs killed their family chihuahua.
"This has been going on for over a year," he said.
Residents say the dogs also snap at people and are known to attack cattle.
They say its no surprise that the dogs brutally attacked 54-year-old Anna Maria Salcido who lives nearby as she was walking down West 10th St.
"You could hear her screaming," said a local plumber, Anthony Barber. He and his coworkers saw the attack on their way to a job and scared the dogs away.
"I can’t imagine what would’ve happened to her if we would have seen her just a couple minutes later," he said, “She and several of the dogs were covered in blood.”
He says the woman was terrified and went into shock before help arrived. EMS took her to The Medical Center Hospital.
The Odessa Animal control picked up four pit bulls so far, and they are still looking for more dogs.
CBS 7 showed up at the owners home and spotted just one pit bull on a leash in the front yard.
Residents say this is not the first time Animal Control was called out to their area, but hopefully the last.
Salcido is in fair condition as of Monday night. Police say the dogs did not have their rabies shots and their 17-year-old owner was given tickets for that along with not having a licenses for the dogs.
The dogs remain quarantined.
