El Paso County Student Scores Continue to Lag 3/12/13

Associated Press
3/12/13

EL PASO, Texas - Preliminary data shows state-mandated test scores for
nine West Texas school districts have improved but still lag behind statewide
averages.

Release of the scores for all nine districts in El Paso County comes in the
wake of revelations of cheating on high-stakes tests. El Paso and Canutillo
school districts were among those at the center of the investigation, which led
to administrators who resigned or were reprimanded.

The El Paso Times reports (http://bit.ly/13PNHK9 ) district officials blame
the low results on stricter rules for the tests and a misalignment between
curriculum and new test requirements.

District officials say last year, after the new tests were first
administered, corrections were made but the schools still fall below state
averages.
