COPPERAS COVE, Texas (AP) - Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III now has a street segment named for him in his Central Texas hometown.
The Redskins rookie sensation last season and Baylor's Heisman Trophy winner the season before played high school football in the town of Copperas Cove, near the Fort Hood military base.
A stretch of roadway on the eastern side of Copperas Cove, about 70 miles north of Austin, was dedicated Friday to the 23-year-old local legend who made his name in athletics at Copperas Cove High School.
Griffin told the assembled crowd that he was honored by the newly named Robert Griffin the Third Boulevard but joked he hoped for a high speed limit.
The speedy Griffin led the Redskins to their first division title since 1999 last season before injuring his knee in the playoffs.
