ODESSA-Odessa College kicked off a new class geared towards parents and caregivers of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders.
The class focused on giving teachers the skills necessary to help all children learn in the classroom and at home.
“These classes are important because we need to ensure that every child has the same opportunity to learn—that’s their birthright,” said instructor Ashlee Bates.
One of the activities included a "sensory overload" lesson--to help adults see the world through the eyes of a child who sees the world in a different way.
"I'm trying to give people a hands on experience into what these children go through on a day to day basis," said Bates.
The class costs less than $50.
Teachers say they want to hold more in the future—you can express interest by calling the Odessa College Continuing Education Department at (432) 335-6580.
