Suspect in West Texas Shooting Killed in Wreck 3/7/13

Associated Press
3/7/13

BROWNFIELD, Texas - A man who West Texas police say gunned down his
wife's parents was killed hours later when his vehicle struck a tractor-trailer.

Brownfield Police Chief Tony Serbantez says 42-year-old Jose DeLuna was
killed Tuesday afternoon when his car crossed the center line west of Brownfield
and collided with the oncoming big rig.

Serbantez says DeLuna shortly after noon had walked into the home of Jesus
and Rosa Contreras searching for his wife, from whom he was separated.

A dispute arose and the 70-year-old Contreras and his 63-year-old wife were
shot.

Serbantez said Wednesday that DeLuna was not being pursued when his car
struck the rig.

Serbantez says the last homicide to occur in Brownfield was in 2009. The
town is about 40 miles southwest of Lubbock.
