CBS 7 News
March 5, 2013

The following is a press release from Howard College:

Big Spring - The Hawk Rodeo Team kicked off their Spring 2013 season this last weekend at Ranger College, February 28th - March 2nd. Although it had been a while since their last official outing as a team, they were able to get the work done and bring home some top finishes.

On the ladies side, Laramie Allen finished in 4th place in the barrel racing after a 17.71 long go and 17.8 short go run for a total score on the weekend of 35.51. Her 18.1 time for the weekend in goat tying was enough for the 8th place finish as well.

For the men, Chance Taylor brought home second place in the calf roping and was a close .4 seconds out of first place. He had a strong long go run clocking in at 9.9 and his short go round was equally as good at 10.5 for a total on the weekend of 20.4. Levi Molesworth also competed well in the bareback competition and finished his weekend in 8th place with a 120 point total score.

"It was a good start for the spring season," said Greg Kernick, HC rodeo coach. "We see some things we need to work on and we just have to keep at it and we'll end up in the top spots."

The Hawks will have a couple of weeks to fine tune their skills and then head into the South Plains College rodeo in Levelland, Texas March 21-23, 2013.
