ODESSA - The Odessa Police Department has issued a press release about the arrest of Fernando Edward Thomas, 25, charged with the kidnapping two girls and indecency with a child:
The release says:
An Odessa man has been arrested and charged with two counts of kidnapping and indecency with a child. Fernando Edward Thomas, date of birth, 01-29-1988, is currently held at the Ector County Law Enforcement Center with bonds totaling $80,000.
On Friday, March 1, 2013, at approximately 1807 hours Odessa Police responded to an apartment complex on the East side of town concerning two missing girls, 5 years of age. The girls, (not related) had been outside playing. The girls were last been seen playing in the area around 1730 hours. Witnesses reported that Thomas had been seen hanging around the girls prior to one of the mother’s reporting them missing.
Officers set up a perimeter and began searching the complex going door to door. Officers knocked on a door that had not been confirmed belonging to Thomas but witnesses believed he lived there. When officers first knocked on the door they received no answer. Officers continued their search and were able to confirm the apartment they were previously at was indeed Thomas.
When officers returned they observed the two reported missing girls walking in the complex. The victims reported they were inside the apartment belonging to Thomas and when officers knocked the first time they were told to remain quiet. Officers located Thomas apartment and he was subsequently taken into custody. During the investigation it was determined that Thomas exposed his genitals to the victims. Thomas was charged accordingly.
