MIDLAND-The Red Cross of Midland held a mock disaster relief training today for its volunteers.
The volunteers took to the streets of one Midland neighborhood, responding to the aftermath of a mock tornado.
While the scenarios were not real today, organizers say it's important for volunteers learn to walk the streets, assess damage and help homeowners connect with the right resources.
"It does come up locally," said Julia Dailey, Disaster Response Manager at the Permian Basin Area American Red Cross. "But, particularly at the national level we deploy our volunteers to disasters often."
