VATICAN CITY : No Pope at the Helm 3/1/13

Associated Press
3/1/13

CASTEL GANDOLFO, Italy - The Vatican says Benedict is spending some of his time in retirement praying, watching TV and taking walks.

The former pope, who stepped down yesterday, is relaxing at Castel Gandolfo, the papal vacation retreat near Rome. The Vatican spokesman says just recently, Benedict resumed playing the piano.

The Catholic Church's operations are being run by committee today.

A few key players are handling matters until a new pope is elected to replace the now-retired Benedict.

In one of his first official acts as dean, Cardinal Angelo Sodano officially summons the voting-age cardinals to Rome to participate in the conclave, a formality, given that most are already there.
