DALLAS - Southern Methodist University has put a fraternity on deferred
suspension after three members were charged with misdemeanor assault in the
alleged beating of a student from another fraternity.
The Dallas Morning News (http://dallasne.ws/15VPbSE ) reports a fourth
member of Sigma Phi Epsilon was charged with unlawful restraint in the Feb. 10
incident. Chapter officials say all four members are suspended.
The newspaper reports the incident happened after Lambda Chi Alpha members
spray-painted the door of Sigma Phi Epsilon. A Lambda Chi Alpha member says he
was punched, held for hours and had cleaning fluid sprayed on him.
An attorney for one of the four suspects denies any attack. An SMU spokesman
didn't immediately return a message for comment Friday.
Sigma Phi Epsilon has been barred from hosting events amid the
investigation.
