The following is a press release from TxDOT:
MIDLAND CO, TX –The Texas Department of Transportation, the Texas Department of Public Safety and oil and gas industry officials will gather on Friday (March 1) to announce a public education campaign urging motorists to drive cautiously in high-traffic oil and gas production areas.
While the increase in oil and gas activity in the Permian Basin has created new economic opportunities, it also has put more vehicles on the region’s roadways, creating new hazards for drivers who might not be used to the additional traffic.
Preliminary TxDOT crash reports indicate the Permian Basin energy sector saw a 26 percent increase in roadway fatalities over the previous year.
The announcement will be held March 1st at 1pm at the Midland County Auxiliary Courtroom.
