West Texas Man Gets 2 Years for Ammo Smuggling 2/28/13

Associated Press
2/28/13

EL PASO, Texas - The ex-owner of a law enforcement uniform shop in West
Texas has been sentenced to two years in federal prison for smuggling ammunition
into Mexico.

A judge in El Paso on Wednesday also ordered Hector Ayala to forfeit about
8,600 rounds of ammo and $1 million worth of military and law enforcement
equipment.

The 49-year-old businessman formerly owned Uniforms of Texas in El Paso. The
company was raided in late 2011.

Ayala in December pleaded guilty to facilitating the smuggling of goods as
part of a plea agreement. Charges of money laundering and illegally exporting
ballistic vests were dropped.
