Midland Traffic Accidents up 13.5 Percent in 2012 2/25/13
MIDLAND - A report released by the City of Midland Traffic Division shows that the total number of accidents increased by 13.5 percent in 2012. This could be attributed to the fact that overall traffic has increased by over 10 percent over the past year.
In addition, the report shows that seven or more accidents happened at 29 intersections, up from 25 in 2011.
While fatalities increased from 6 in 2011 to 16 in 2012, the total number of injuries was down from 1,160 in 2011 to 1,100 in 2012.
The number of alcohol and drug-related accidents also decreased from 292 to 188.
City officials study these traffic statistics in order to implement safety changes to traffic devices and intersections.
