ODESSA-It was a party with a purpose in West Odessa.
More than 500 came out to the benefit concert for local restaurant owner Pete Ortiz.
With food, music, dancing and t-shirts, it was a family affair that reached the entire community.
All the money raised is going towards medical expenses for Ortiz and his costly chemotherapy treatments.
The family says they are touched by the response from the community, for a man they say is usually the one giving back.
“We were just going to do something small and it turned out to be amazing and we thank God for it. Just like he would always say, 'With God, everything is possible,” said Jessica Ortiz, Pete’s daughter. “For my dad--hang in there and he's strong, everything's gonna be ok.”
The family hopes to make the benefit an annual event, to help other West Texans as they fight cancer the next go round.
You can also make a donation to Pete Ortiz and his medical expenses.
Donations can be made to the South West 66 Credit Union, account number 99765-0.
