NEW YORK - The Brooklyn Nets are in a new state, but one thing hasn't
change for the franchise - it can't seem to beat the Houston Rockets. James
Harden and Carlos Delfino each scored 22 points for the Rockets in their 106-96
victory. It was the 13th in a row against the Nets, which moved to Brooklyn this
season from New Jersey.
OAKLAND, Calif. - It'd been more than five years since the Golden State
Warriors last beat the San Antonio Spurs. They did it again yesterday, but it
took overtime to pull it off. Jarrett Jack's 30 points and 10 rebounds and David
Lee's 25 points and 22 boards led the way in the 107 to 101 victory. The Spurs
had won 16 straight in the series.
NEW ORLEANS - The Dallas Mavericks have won their third in a row,
thanks to a clutch 3-pointer by Vince Carter. His 3 with 6.5 seconds left capped
a 22-point performance. Dallas held on for a 104-100 win over the New Orleans
Hornets. Dirk Nowitzki scored 25 points for the Mavericks. Eric Gordon scored 23
for the Hornets, who've lost three straight.
SURPRISE, Ariz. - The co-tenants of the spring training site in
Surprise, Ariz., have opened pre-season competition in a neighborly way: with a
tie. The Texas Rangers and Kansas City Royals ended their game after nine
innings yesterday tied at 5 apiece. Will Smith, one of several candidates for
the Royals' fifth starter job, outpitched Rangers starters Derek Holland and
Alexi Ogando.
