HUNTSVILLE, Texas - Texas has executed a death row inmate convicted of
killing his former girlfriend at her apartment by dousing her with gasoline and
setting her on fire.
Forty-eight-year-old Carl Blue was executed by lethal injection Thursday
evening.
Blue was convicted of the September 1994 death of 38-year-old Carmen
Richards-Sanders at her apartment in Bryan, a town about 100 miles northwest of
Houston.
Prosecutors said the attack was the result of jealousy. Blue said it was a
prank gone wrong.
The U.S. Supreme Court rejected his final appeal shortly before the
execution. His death was the first execution this year in the nation's most
active death penalty state.
