Strong Winds Today; T-Storms Possible Mid-Week 2/18/13
Monday Morning Weather Update

Breezy will be the word of the week! Today, winds will increase out of the west and northwest (15-25mph with higher gusts). Highs will be in the lower to mid 60’s across the Permian Basin. Further southwest, highs will be in the lower to mid 70’s. Skies will be mostly sunny though the day. A few extra clouds are expected later tonight.
Winds will shift to the east and southeast on Tuesday. Wind speeds will remain elevated (15-25mph). However, this wind direction will usher extra moisture into the region. Highs will be in the lower 60’s on Tuesday afternoon.
On Wednesday, a large upper level storm system will set up across the Great Basin. Strong winds are expected across a large part of the area. However, the wind direction and moisture content in the atmosphere will play a key roll in the forecast. Look for strong west winds and dry conditions across the western half of the area. Strong southeast winds are expected east of hwy 385. This will help to sharpen a dryline across the Permian Basin during the afternoon hours. Thunderstorms are possible along the dryline late Wednesday afternoon and evening. A Pacific Cold Front will overtake the dryline after midnight. This will keep the chance of thunderstorms in the forecast through Thursday morning. Expect slightly cooler temperatures in the wake of this front on Thursday afternoon.
Sunny skies and less wind are expected on Friday and Saturday.
