PRESIDIO - The port of entry at the Presidio border with Mexico is now one of the fastest to cross thanks to its state of the art technology.
It is one of the busiest crossings. Back then it took nearly two hours for people to cross. Now with it’s new technology that time has been cut to nearly 30 minutes.
"As you approach the lane, you’ll see the cameras. One will read your license plate and that information is sent to the officer. The other will read your documents. It helps expedite your movement thru the processing of your entry to the United States. It's quicker, as long as you show that picture and that document to that machine, when you get to the booth your are asked a few questions and then you are down the road in entering to Presidio," says Presidio Port Director, David Lambrix.
Lambrix tells us that this process can take hours. Now with the new technology coming into town, this process will be done in less than 5 minutes.
"What's going to happen with the new technology that's coming here to Presidio in the very near future is where the truck came in at the gate, it actually will drive thru the Vacis without any harm to the driver, clear its paperwork and then be expedited down the road. With the expedited new technology, it will probably be done in two to three minutes."
The director tells us that the idea is for people to have its documents at hand when approaching the port of entry.
