ODESSA, TX - Reports of masked men with a gun threatening a teenager near Permian High School has students and parents concerned for their well-being. But conflicting reports has them asking - what really happened?
" Well I went to pull up, I texted her ‘I’m here'. She texted me mom don't panic, there's a guy with a gun in the building," said Anne, mother of student.
Anne came to Permian High School last night to pick her daughter from dance practice; little did she know she was in the midst of a crime scene.
"So I noticed there were a lot of parents out there and they looked concerned. They were pointing off towards Dawn and they would not let the kids out," she said.
Anne hides her identity out of fear of retaliation from school leaders. She says her daughter thought a gunman entered the school, but couldn’t confirm with anyone what was taking place.
According to Odessa police, a male victim says that around 7:40pm he was walking out of Permian High School to his vehicle parked on Dawn. Then a black 4-door car with black rims stopped near him.
Police say that 4 to 5 men wearing ski masks and dark clothing exited the vehicle and started yelling at him. One of the suspects pulled out a gun and pointed it at the victim’s face.
Then the teen ran back to the school, where he waited until the suspects left. He then drove home and told his parents.
Anne saw police on the school campus, questioning everyone one there but for her that’s not enough.
"I really wish they [school leaders] would at least give us a call and we don't know exactly what happened. There are some children exposed to a gun being taken out,” said Anne.
ECISD says that Odessa police plan on increasing patrol in the area.
The suspect who pointed the weapon is described as a Hispanic male, 5'8" tall, wearing a black hoodie, black pants and black ski mask. Anyone with information is asked to call Odessa Crime Stoppers at 432-333-tips.
