Grand Jury: Not Enough Evidence to Charge Kermit Officer in Shooting 2/8/13
Winkler County – The Grand Jury met Wednesday to review all of the evidence and circumstances involving a Kermit Police Officer.
They decided there was not enough evidence to charge Officer Donnie Jowers, however they did return an indictment against Nicholas Chad Weaver for Aggravated Assault Against a Public Servant.
The District Attorney, Dorothy A. Holgun says there was a lengthy investigation including the Kermit Police Department, The Winkler County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Rangers before it was presented to the Grand Jury.
According to eye witnesses Weaver and his girlfriend were pulled over by Officer Jowers January 24. They say Weaver tackled Jowers and was reaching for his gun before the officer shot him in the stomach.
