ODESSA- Like many schools across the country, ECISD re-evaluated their safety policies and procedures in the wake of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary.
Today, school board members met to discuss school safety, and received praise from an external school safety consultant for their emergency procedures and plans.
To ensure the school district was doing everything it could to keep its children safe, ECISD had TASB Risk Management Fund attend the district’s emergency management training.
The consultant said in a letter the district had the best emergency preparedness and schools security they have ever seen in Texas.
School board members still discussed revisions and ways to improve, and district police master sergeant, Leslie Alexander, said they would conduct threat assessments soon.
“What we’ll be doing is going to each campus and looking at the physical components and any way we can improve safety and security,” said Alexander.
Even though the district was commended, school board members said there's always room to improve the safety of their students.
