CBS 7 News
February 5, 2013

Big Spring - A Big Spring man is facing a murder charge and two others for his alleged involvement in an October shooting that claimed the life of one man and injured another.

Christopher Daniel Marquez, 19, is facing a murder charge, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the wounding of Mendez and a third charge, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.

Luis Adolfo Pena, 33, died Oct. 27, 2012 from a gunshot wound he received earlier in the day.

Howard County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the old VFW lodge on Driver Road at approximately 2:33 a.m. that day and found Pena wounded in the parking lot. He was transported to Scenic Mountain Medical Center where he later died.

A second shooting victim, Raul Mendez, was transported to the hospital by private vehicle. Mendez was treated for his wounds at the emergency room and later released.

Marquez was arrested a few days later in San Angelo.

Marquez faces a possible life term in prison if convicted of either the murder or aggravated assault charges, while the unlawful firearm possession charge carries a possible sentence of up to 10 years in prison, according to the Big Spring Herlad.
