Xavier Martin named Heartland Conference Player of the Week 2/4/13

UTPB junior Xavier Martin has been named the Heartland Conference men's basketball player of the week for Jan. 28 - Feb. 3, the conference announced Monday.
Martin carried the Falcons to a pair of home wins this week, scoring 23 points in both victories over St. Mary's and Texas A&M International.
Xavier shot 70 percent from the field (7-10) in the Falcons 68-60 win over St. Mary's, leading the team with 13 second half points.
He led UTPB back from trailing by 19 points with 14:14 to play against Texas A&M International two days later, scoring 18 of his game-high 23 in the final 20 minutes as the Falcons scored a 72-62 victory. Martin connected on each of his four field goals in the second half, including all three of his 3-pointers, and finished the game 5-7 from the floor, 4-4 behind the arc and 9-10 from the line to go with a game high four steals.
He now leads UTPB in scoring on the season, averaging 13.1 points in 12 games.
