Odessa - West Texas Gifts of Hope is planned to be a home away from home for cancer patients coming to Odessa for treatment. Executive Director Charle Scott told CBS 7 Closer Look that the newly organized non-profit is dedicated to improving the quality of life for patients during cancer treatment by providing free lodging and services. The groups current project is to complete a four bedroom home facility on Second street across from West Texas Cancer Center. West Texas Gifts of Hope got its start with a property donation from the Jaycees and by winning a four thousand square foot metal building from the Mueller Helping Hands Award. Scott says patients for the home facility are screened by oncologists based on need. They are provided lodging, medicine, transportation and medical equipment. the Executive Director told Closer Look that the operations is funded entirely by donations, memorials and fundraisers.
