SAN ANTONIO - An Air Force instructor at a San Antonio base has been
acquitted by a court-martial of the gravest charges against him from a sex
scandal that's embroiled the base's basic training programs.
A military jury on Wednesday found Staff Sgt. Donald Davis not guilty of
assault and battery against a trainee and abusive sexual contact after a
three-day trial at Lackland Air Force base.
Previously, Davis pleaded guilty to engaging in an unprofessional personal
and sexual relationship with a trainee. A sentencing hearing on that plea is
scheduled for Thursday.
In all, 32 basic-training instructors have been under investigation at
Lackland, with six being convicted of misconduct. Investigators say more than 40
women at Lackland had inappropriate contact with instructors or were sexually
harassed or raped.
