Odessa Parents Arrested in 3-Year-Old Child's Murder 1/30/13

ODESSA,TX - Two people have been arrested in connection with the death of three year old Omar Frias Jr. On January 10, 2013, at approximately 7:00pm the Odessa Police Department was notified by medical staff from Medical Center Hospital of possible child abuse.
At approximately 2:51pm, Omar Frias Jr., had been transported to the hospital by his mother (Olivas) and step father (Ramirez) due to the child being unresponsive. The child was treated by medical staff and then transported to Cooks Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth.
On January 11, 2013, Omar Frias Jr. died while at Cooks Children Hospital. An autopsy was performed by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office and based on their findings his death was ruled a homicide. Investigators with the Homicide/Robbery Unit were notified and an investigation ensued.
During the investigation it was determined that Omar Frias Jr., suffered blunt force trauma to his abdomen. Based on information obtained from the preliminary autopsy report, Omar’s medical records, and statements obtained from Olivas and Ramirez’s, investigators sought and obtained a warrant for their arrest.
At 2:00pm today, Olivas and Ramirez were taken into custody without incident and both were transported to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center.
