CBS 7 News
January 30, 2013

Border Patrol agents in both Sierra Blanca and Marfa had a busy weekend including three major drug busts. They've released the following details:

MARFA, Texas – Big Bend Sector Border Patrol agents assigned to both the Sierra Blanca and Marfa Stations shutdown three different narcotics trafficking attempts on Sunday

The first attempt, occurred during a commercial bus check at the Sierra Blanca checkpoint on I-10 around 2:30 p.m., and involved an illegal alien with 3.76 lbs. of crystal meth taped to his legs. The narcotics have a street value of $120,480. The second attempt at the Sierra Blanca checkpoint occurred at 9 p.m. when agents and a Border Patrol canine found a bag aboard another commercial bus which contained 4.71 lbs. of heroin valued at $377,200. Agents were able to connect the bag to a 47-year-old man from California, who was a passenger on the bus.

Marfa agents at the Highway 67 Checkpoint seized 8.5 lbs. of crystal meth valued at $204,000. About 4 p.m., a 1999 Buick LeSabre, driven by a 22-year-old Indiana woman entered the checkpoint. A Border Patrol canine alerted to the presence of either concealed humans or narcotics. Agents found the crystal meth hidden in the floor boards of the car.

All of the subjects in the three separate events and the drugs seized were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for further investigation.
