Very Strong Winds Today 1/29/13

Tuesday Morning Weather Update
Greg Morgan – Chief Meteorologist

A large trough of low pressure ejecting out of the Great Basin into the Plains States today will bring big changes! A strong belt of winds will round the base of this system. An area of surface low pressure will set up over western Oklahoma. A Pacific Cold Front will extend southward from this feature, across Texas to near Eagle Pass/Uvalde. West of this front, strong winds (30-40mph with gusts 50-60mph) are likely. Even stronger winds will be possible above 6000 feet in the Guadalupe and Davis Mountains. Here winds could gust as high as 85-90mph!
Temperatures will be much cooler than yesterday. Expect highs in the mid 50’s for most. The mountains will only see highs in the 40’s.
East of the front, moisture will be present and thunderstorms are likely. Some storms from northeast Texas through the Ozarks will be severe. Hail, highs winds and tornadoes will be possible. Especially across the MO. AR. and TN.

Winds will calm a bit after midnight. Look for sunny skies on Wednesday. Highs will be in the 50’s again but without the winds!

Warmer conditions will return later in the week. A few extra clouds are expected over the region this weekend. But little in the way of rain is expected over the next 7 days.
