Odessa, TX - Thursday morning the FBI, DEA, Homeland Security and law enforcement on the state and local levels occupied the streets to search a home of a former police officer and deputy.
“When I saw the swat team get out of their trucks with their guns,” said “I thought what in the world is going on,” said Thompson’s neighbor Mary Jane Tipton
The arrest affidavit states it all started when 38-year-old Jackie Lynn Thompson was pulled over by troopers after running a stop sign.
While searching his truck they found a handgun and a small amount of methamphetamine.
He was immediately arrested.
Thompson gave agents access to his house in West Odessa after investigators told him that they have a search warrant for his home. He the admitted to selling around five pounds of methamphetamine since last October after agents found a small amount of methamphetamine in his home.
“You never know anymore,” said neighbor Danny Tipton.
CBS 7 looked into Thompson’s past:
The City of Odessa Spokesperson, Andrea Goodson confirms he worked for the Odessa Police Department from April 7, 2003 to July 15, 2007 until he resigned. He joined The Ector County Sheriff's Office in January 2009 according to public records.
“He worked in the reserve,” said Sgt. Gary Duesler with the Sheriff’s Office, “That means he was a certified officer who volunteered his time.”
Sgt. Duesler says Thomason worked under former Sheriff Reggie Yearwood and will need time to find the records to determine if there were any internal investigations at the time.
CBS 7 spoke to one former Odessa police officer who says Thompson left the department on good standing.
Sources say he works for his Father in an oil and gas related business.
“They should prosecute him harder then they prosecute anybody being in at police officer and he knew better,” said Danny Tipton.
If convicted of selling drugs, Thompson could serve at least 10 years in jail. A bond hearing is set for Wednesday.
