Kermit, TX - Many neighbors in Kermit began their eyewitness accounts when they noticed police lights through their windows.

Police have not confirmed this, but witnesses say around 8:30 Thursday night, they saw a man who CBS 7 identified through family members as Chad Weaver arguing with a Kermit Police Officer. The officer pulled over Weaver who was driving a black Nissan.

An eyewitness says the officer already had his gun drawn before Weaver tried to tackle him. Neighbors say they wrestled over the gun before Weaver was shot by the officer.

Ruby Garcia says that is when she ran out of her house on Robinson St. to see what happened.

“The officer was on top of the guy and a lady in handcuffs was next to him,” Garcia said.
She says noticed an outraged woman with Weaver began to give the officer trouble.

“The lady was like why did you shoot him and she was going crazy,” Garcia said, "So I pulled her off."

Another neighbor says the officer's shoulder mic did not work and they took it upon themselves to call for back up from his car.

“I was worried because my daughter was out here and the officer was looking really distressed,” Garcia said, “He was freaking out.”

Garcia says she continued to guide the woman away from the scene until help came.

“I tried to defuse the situation,” she said, “I've been in the military and have never seen anything like this before.”

Neighbors on the scene say they helped the young officer clean a minor wound to his head, but overall there were no major injures to the officer.

Police say the woman is now in custody and Weaver was airlifted to a hospital.

The Texas Rangers are leading this investigation that is still ongoing. They have yet to release the name of the officer or the two suspects involved.
