Kerry Testifies Before Panel He Chairs 1/24/13

Associated Press
January 24, 2013

WASHINGTON - Sen. John Kerry is answering questions on a wide range of foreign policy issues at his confirmation hearings to be the next secretary of state.

On Iran, Kerry says the U.S. will "do what we must" to prevent Tehran from developing a nuclear weapon, describing the policy as prevention, not containment.

Asked about his own past efforts to improve relations with Syria, Kerry says President Bashar Assad's "reprehensible" judgments in trying to put down the uprising against his regime have made his past efforts on Syria "ancient history."
