TYLER - Prosecutors will seek a life sentence for a retired East Texas dentist convicted of murder in the fatal shooting of his wife.
The penalty phase of Bobby Ray Nichols' murder trial begins Thursday. A Smith County jury deliberated about an hour Wednesday afternoon before returning its verdict.
Nichols, who's 76, fatally shot his 71-year-old wife Rosalind Nichols on June 29 during an argument at their home.
Nichols testified told jurors that he was "in a stupor" and did not intend to fatally shoot his wife during an argument at their home last summer.
