EL PASO - A second high-ranking school district administrator in
El Paso is stepping down after district officials received findings from an
expanding forensic investigation into academic cheating.
The El Paso Times has confirmed the retirement of Maria Flores, associate
superintendent of elementary schools. Flores once worked at Bowie High School,
the center of the scandal.
The newspaper also reports that the school board has voted to fire an
assistant principal at Bowie and is due to consider firing James Anderson, an
assistant superintendent who has been on paid leave since mid-December.
The newspaper said it couldn't reach the officials for comment.
A scheme involving standardized tests has landed the district's former
superintendent in prison and put its operation in the hands of the Texas
Education Agency.
