Odessa Police: Child's Death Ruled as Murder 1/18/13

On January 10, 2013, the Odessa Police Department was notified by medical staff from Medical Center Hospital of possible child abuse. Omar Frias Jr., date of birth 11/22/2009, had been transported to the hospital by family members due to the child being unresponsive. The child was treated by medical staff and then transported to Cooks Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth.
On January 11, 2013, Omar Frias Jr. died while at Cooks Children Hospital. An autopsy was performed by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office and based on their findings his death was ruled a homicide. Investigators with the Homicide/Robbery Unit were notified and an investigation ensued.
Investigation continues. More information will be released as it becomes available.
