OPD Press Release
January 18, 2013
ODESSA - The Odessa Police Department will begin to periodically designate “safe zones” throughout the city.
These “safe zones” are areas in which traffic enforcement will be increased in an effort to gain traffic law compliance.
“Safe zones” will be announced the week prior to enforcement action being taken. Expect to see officers of the Odessa Police Department working these areas singly or in groups in an effort to gain compliance through education and enforcement.
Officers working “safe zones” will be enforcing all traffic laws but will pay close attention to red light, stop sign, speeding and other moving violations.
Safe Zones for the Coming Week:
100 block - 2000 blocks W. 8th Street
3800 block - 4100 blocks of Golder Avenue
2700 block - 4100 block of Tanglewood Lane
The Traffic Units will concentrate on all School Zones including cell phone use in school zones, Crosswalks, and School Buses while loading and unloading children.
Please take note of this “safe zone” and remind your family and friends we will be taking enforcement action in this area next week.
By working together and obeying the law, perhaps we can reduce traffic accidents, injuries and fatalities by making our streets safer places on which to drive.
