3 Ex-Officers Arraigned in South Texas 1/18/13

Associated Press
January 18, 2013

MCALLEN - The sons of two prominent South Texas law enforcement
officials are among three ex-officers arraigned on allegations they took money
to escort drug loads.

Former Mission police officers Jonathan Trevino and Alexis Espinoza and
former Hidalgo County sheriff's deputy Gerardo Mendoza-Duran were indicted last
week. They're charged with conspiring to possess cocaine with intent to
distribute, and aiding and abetting. Trevino's father is Hidalgo County Sheriff
Lupe Trevino; Espinoza's is Hidalgo police Chief Rodolfo "Rudy" Espinoza.

The Monitor of McAllen (http://bit.ly/UU8XGk) reports all three pleaded not
guilty Thursday in federal court in McAllen. Another former officer, former
deputy Fabian Rodriguez, pleaded not guilty Monday.

The four men were arrested in December. The indictment says they accepted
thousands of dollars in bribes to escort drug loads in a federal sting
operation.
