ODESSA, TX - One West Texas woman is giving free concealed handgun classes to teachers in an effort to train them to protect students in schools.
West Texas gun enthusiasts are pushing for handguns in the classroom to better protect our students.
"You never know who's going to walk though those doors. So you got to be prepared. You got to be ready," said Kendra Ellsworth, mother of ECISD students.
"If the teachers volunteer to do so and they're taking proper training then that’s an excellent idea to protect the kids,” said gun enthusiast Gerald Tomlinson.
But one West Texas woman is taking this desire to the next level.
"I have two children in the school district in Ector County. It's important to me that they be protected in school and not be sitting ducks if something were to happen," stated Jennifer Bussell.
Bussell is the co-owner of Brush Mountain Outfitters gun shop and is providing handgun classes to teachers completely for free.
"I want to teach people how to use a firearm, to protect themselves, their families, and protect my children while they're at school" stated Bussell.
Although schools are a gun free zone, Bussell says though education she can open the minds of those that opposed concealed weapons on campuses, while advocating for this rule to be changed.
