Midland – If you’re thinking about watering that lawn, you might want to think twice. You might be paying last year’s rates.
As of the beginning of Jan., Midlanders are able to water outside twice a week. City officials also lowered the water rate charges. That means it should be cheaper for you to use more water.
But city officials say if you haven’t paid your January bill yet – you are still being charged the higher rates.
“If people want to water twice a week right now in the middle of January, they're more than welcome to,” said Sara Higgins, a representative of the Midland City Manager’s Office. “But we just want them to understand that until they get this month's bill, they will be charged the five times multiplier.”
Last year, using more than 10,000 gallons meant paying as much as 23 dollars per thousand gallons. But if you haven’t paid your bill this month, you could still be paying the old rates. All residents should be charged the new, lower rates by the beginning of Feb.
