Big Spring - Unlike other counties in the Permian Basin, there is no burn ban in place for Howard County.

This means people in the county can pop fireworks as they ring in the New Year. However fire officials say the area is very dry; that's why they're encouraging you to use extreme caution if you pop fire works.

They say you also need to remember that it is illegal to pop fireworks in city limits. If caught you could see a fine up to $500.
