MIDLAND, TX – One local woman has made it her Christmas wish to help a group of children in a special way.
“Everybody loves the carriage rides and everybody's waving , hollering," said Vicky Thorpe, carriage ride owner.
Christmas season is season of giving. On these carriage rides in Midland, west Texans are helping a special group of children; children they may never meet in person.
"Everybody that takes a ride helps these kids," said Thorpe.
Vicky Thorpe is the owner of Vicky’s Kids, a private medical foster facility. She has 9 kids, 4 of which she adopted.
"There all brain damaged children. They're abused in the worse kind of way and I've been taking them for 28 years,” she said.
Some were shaken, beaten and neglected.
Thorpe and a team of more than 20 nurses provide 24 hour care to the children, whose lives are often cut short.
"We do loose children because these kids don't have long lives," stated the mother of four.
She’s made it her mission to give these kids the lives they need.
This Christmas, they don’t need toys. The money earned from the carriage rides go towards buying them the basic necessities like shampoo, food and clothes.
For Thorpe, she has one Christmas wish. It’s to help the kids she has now and find forever homes for more children in the future.
"For everyone we lose, there's another needing help," stated Thorpe.
Vicky Thorpe will be doing the carriage rides until New Years Eve in Midland. She also schedules appointments for carriage rides. For more information on Vicky’s Kids call them at (432) 530 - 0970.
