ODESSA – An Odessa woman is warning people in the Permian Basin to beware of shady contractors that are cashing in on the demand for builders.
With so much development going on in West Texas, contractors in the industry say the Permian Basin is overrun with work and some customers are being taken advantage of.
One West Texas woman says she paid a contractor for a job in full, but then the work was never finished, even after she confronted the contractor and went to the city for help. Now a different company had to come step in to finish the job.
“We went to the city, to the police department, we tried everything to hold them accountable and there is no accountability,” said Anna Santana from Odessa.
Construction industry expert, Denton Taylor, says “Number one, are they even registered with the city of Odessa. A lot of people believe they only have to be registered with the state of Texas, which is not correct. They have to be registered with the country in which they work. One other thing is reference, reference, reference.”
Taylor also advises you to do your research before hiring anyone to do a job for you. That will help you avoid an expensive lawsuit down the road.
