December 21, 2012 will be the end of the world according to the Mayan calendar.
It sparked reaction from all over the world, but for many West Texans its just another day.
For some the predicted dooms day is taking on a sense of hype similar to the New Year.
Local bars filled up with people celebrating drink promotions.
Professor Derrick Catsum with the University of Texas of the Permian Basin says this is not the first time the human kind has been led astray.
"UTPB didn't have their spring calendar until November,” he said, “And the Mayans are expected to have an infinite calendar?"
He says this prediction is based on many errors. Still local grocery stores in Midland and Odessa report a sales spike in water and non-perishable food.
Many West Texans say if it were the end of the world, they would spend it with loved ones.
