Odessa Police Involved In A Car Chase With Oil Tanker UPDATE 2:00 PM 12/12/12

At approximately 0104 hours, officers responded to a call of a stolen vehicle at the Tesco, located at 1526 Windway. Officers contacted the victim who reported that someone stole a 2000 Mack truck. Officer Marshall Williams located the truck unoccupied just east of the business in a field north of Windhaven. While officers were investigating this incident, Emergency Communications received a call that a black male was hiding in the service yard at 1410 West I-20.
Corporal Damon McGilvary responded to that location and contacted an employee. The employee reported that a black male had entered his truck (18-wheeler) while he was asleep inside. The employee reported the suspect ran to the back of the yard. While checking the yard with the employee, they observed a 2006 Mack truck with a tanker attached operating at a high rate of speed. The employee reported no one was else was suppose to be in the yard. The truck was driving directly towards Corporal McGilvary.
The officer jumped out of the way of the moving vehicle and the driver continued through a gate leaving the service yard. A pursuit was initiated which proceeded for approximately two miles before the driver stopped at Clements and Bankhead. The driver was taken into custody. He identified himself as Alfonzo Mackey, date of birth 09-11-1989. He was subsequently charged and transported to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center.

It happened around 1:30 this morning on Clements Street.
Details are limited, but officers on the scene tell CBS 7 one person is detained and chages are being worked on.
