Enrollment Begins for 2013’s Junior Leadership--Odessa 12/3/12
Chamber of Commerce Press Release
December 3, 2012
The Odessa Chamber of Commerce is now accepting applications for its 25th Annual Junior Leadership program. Thanks to the generosity of Chamber members, participation is free for Juniors from Permian High School, Odessa High School, and New Tech Odessa.
Junior Leadership will begin with a day-long retreat on January 26 and conclude with a graduation ceremony on February 26, 2013. Applicants are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis and forty spaces are available. The application deadline is 5:00 PM, December 19, 2012.
Junior Leadership is an intensive one-month course that takes students behind-the-scenes of Odessa’s bustling economy and introduces them to businessmen and women in a variety of fields. The kick-off retreat and all four sessions focus on the theme of building a better Odessa.
A perennial favorite of our Junior Leaders is the evening session on Law Enforcement & Government in which SWAT officers, firemen, and sometimes even a K9 unit, demonstrate their formidable skills. Another popular session focuses on Media and gives students the opportunity to record their own evening news show within a professional studio.
Graduates of Junior Leadership come away with business connections, impressive experience for college applications, and ten Texas Scholar hours. The Odessa Chamber of Commerce hopes participants also leave with a heightened awareness of their hometown’s value and a conviction to make it even greater.
