MIDLAND-Homeland security is now investigating the suspicious message sent to Midland ISD junior high students.
Most students said they were solicited on a phone application called Instagram.
Instagram is a popular app for to post pictures, follow friends and connect accounts with other sites like Twitter and Facebook.
While Instagram is a cool photo-sharing tool that lets us be creative and edit pictures, it can also share information we may not realize and don’t want revealed.
Like many other social media outlets, Instagram automatically sets your profile public by default.
To make sure your profile is private, go to your profile page, tap the settings icon in the right hand corner, find “Photos are private” and switch the toggle ‘On’.
Once you turn on Privacy, anyone who wants to see your photos, or followers & following lists, will have to send you a follow request
Also, make sure no personal information like a contact number is on your profile page.
Simple safety tips can keep you and your family safe online and off.
