Hobbs Deputy Recovering From Shooting 11/27/12
(Hobbs)- A Lea County sheriff's deputy is recovering after being shot in the arm and neck while serving a search warrant.
New Mexico State Police say the shootout happened Saturday after midnight when sheriff's deputies and police officers executed the warrant at a Hobbs home.
They say Juan Uribe-Vidal of Hobbs and James Gomez of Hagerman began shooting at the officers from within the home.
Sgt. Michael Tovar was hit. The six-year veteran was airlifted to a Lubbock, Texas, hospital, where he was treated and released.
State police say the search of the home turned up 11 firearms and one improvised explosive device.
Uribe-Vidal and Gomez were arrested for aggravated battery and aggravated assault on a police officer.
