Big Spring - As we get into the cooler months, the city of Big Spring wants you to protect your water pipes before the first big freeze.

They're encouraging all residents to wrap their pipes with pipe insulation or to apply heat tape to prevent them from breaking when it freezes.

City officials say acting early will save you time and money in the long run.

"We're asking all people to please wrap their pipes now so that later they won't freeze and potentially break," Johnny Womack, Assistant Director of Environment Services for the city of Big Spring said.

The city does not recommend turning your faucets on to a "slow drip" due to current water restrictions.

You can purchase pipe insulation and heat tape at any hardware store.
