Big Spring - 'Tis the season for giving, however it's also the season for stealing.
According to the Howard Count Sheriff's Office, this is the time of year Big Spring sees a spike in theft.
While this may be the time of year filled with gifts and spending time with your family, if you aren't careful where you put your belongings, you could be giving more than you bargained for.
Thieves peer through the window, spot exactly what they're looking for...and just like that, your stuff is gone.
"Anything that's an easy target," Howard County Sheriff Stan Parker said. "Thats what they're looking for, something easy. Knowing exactly what they're looking for, being able to look in your car and see it."
Looking across any parking lot in town, you just might see a person up to no good.
"They're out there, always have been and always will be," Sheriff Parker said.
That's why the Howard County Sheriff's Office is on high alert this holiday season.
"We're on a little more alert because we know that there's a lot of gifts and a lot of shopping and a lot of money flowing, so we try to be on guard for that," Sheriff Parker said.
He says these thieves are looking for anything they can grab easily and turn for money.
"We're looking for people obviously walking through parking lots or areas they shouldn't be," Sheriff Parker said.
He added that paying attention to your surroundings and making it harder for thieves to see your things will make your holiday a lot more cheerful.
