Midland - Our community is just now starting to understand the impact that this accident had on not just the basin, but on our nation. The question on everyone's minds, how could this have happened?

Investigators are a step closer to finding out how the train crash happened.

The train has moved on and the scene is now clear; today investigators with the National Transportation Safety Board were still on the scene gathering information.

They looked at the train conductor's driver performance, health, rest, driving history, qualifications and medical history.

All of the immediate data was sent on a standby airplane yesterday to be analyzed at the NTSB lab in Washington D.C.

The NTSB will be holding a press conference this afternoon at 4:30pm at the Hilton Garden Inn in Odessa.

CBS 7 will be at the press conference and bring you the latest on the investigation.

Officials with Midland Memorial Hospital say four victims from the crash remain in the hospital today. There is one in critical condition and three in stable.

They say a few of the patients could possibly be transferred to hospitals in the towns they're from to finish their treatment.

We’ll keep you up to date on the status of the patients here on CBS 7 and CBS7.com.
