Monahans Neighborhood in Shock After Child is Killed While Riding Bike 11/10/12

Monahans - A Monahans neighborhood is in shock after a boy is killed while riding his bike.
What started as a beautiful Saturday afternoon turned tragic, as residents of Monahans mourn the loss of a child.
On a Saturday afternoon Gary Street is normally filled with children, however today it was filled with law enforcement.
Monahans Police responded to a car-pedestrian accident just after one this afternoon; there they found a child and his bicycle under a white SUV.
The child was transported to the Ward County Hospital where he later died.
Neighbors say the child was boy around 9 or 10 years old.
"It's sad…devastating...I have a ten-year-old. There's been a lot of that happening it seems like," neighbor Amanda Cruz said.
Neighbors say with only two stop signs in the neighborhood, it was just a matter of time before tragedy struck.
"Over the weekend they're in a hurry and don't respect the stop signs, there's usually a lot of bike riders around," neighbor Joselyn Villa said.
"People run the stop signs all the time when I'm taking my kids to school," Cruz said.
Especially after today, mother Amanda Cruz says she wants all drivers to slow down.
"There's so many kids here and a lot of them do walk from the houses to their games," she said.
Cruz says this tragedy should be a wake up call not only for drivers, but for pedestrians that the roads are dangerous.
The driver of the white SUV was taken to the hospital and has been released.
Monahans Police and the Texas Rangers are currently investigating the accident.
No tickets have been issued and no arrests have been made at this time.

UPDATE 2:05 PM
The child involved in the car-pedestrian accident has died from their injuries, according to Monahans Police.
Officials with the MPD say the child was pronounced dead at Ward County Hospital at 1:30 pm this afternoon.
Police are investigating the accident at this time. No tickets have been issued and no arrests have been made at this time.

Monahans – A Monahans child has been transported to the hospital with serious injuries this afternoon after being hit by a vehicle.
Monahans Police say a child riding their bike was hit by an SUV on the 900 block of Gary St.
The child has been transported to the Ward County Hospital.
